Instead of paywalls or memberships, we invite those who can to support the work with a small donation. The tool that makes this possible on our site is GiveWP, a WordPress donation platform that keeps the experience simple, secure, and aligned with our values.
GiveWP runs directly on our WordPress site, so donations happen in a familiar and distraction-free flow. It connects to Stripe for payment processing, which means secure transactions, clear reporting, and direct payouts to our bank. Because GiveWP is built specifically for donations, not for e-commerce or subscriptions, it stays lightweight and focused on accessibility and trust.
PayPal – While PayPal is widely recognized, we chose not to use it because of ethical concerns. Its history and ongoing business ties connect it to ventures we don’t want to align with. For us, Stripe offers a more transparent and value-aligned system.
Patreon – Patreon is built around memberships and exclusive content. That approach doesn’t fit with our open access philosophy. We believe COPD resources should never sit behind a paywall, limited to only those who can afford a subscription. Our goal is to keep this information open and free, which made Patreon the wrong fit.
Instead of relying on PayPal or Patreon, we’ve chosen GiveWP with Stripe because it reflects our values: open access, independence, and transparency. It lets us provide secure support without compromising the mission of keeping COPD Lifestyle free for everyone.
COPD Lifestyle is about breathing easier, and that includes caring for the air we all share. We have pledged to donate 1% of all revenue (donations and affiliate earnings) to an environmental initiative focused on clean air and healthier environments.
We are currently exploring partners working in air quality, reforestation, and pollution reduction. Once a partner is chosen, we will publish updates so you can see exactly where that 1% goes.
Every donation does two things: it keeps COPD Lifestyle free for anyone who needs it, and it helps protect the air we all breathe for all future generations; a legacy worth starting.
